Claude Code for designers.

Claude Code is a coding agent, and on its own it lives in a terminal. Prototo Desktop puts it inside a design harness: a native iOS project that is ready to go, Prototo's design guidance, and a live iPhone preview beside the agent. You describe, look and decide. Codex works the same way.

What changes for a designer

  • No terminal setup: Prototo Desktop creates the project and starts the preview.
  • No blank page: the agent starts from a working native app and design profiles for color, type and spacing.
  • No guessing: every change appears in the live iPhone preview as it is made.
  • No handoff: Publish shares what you designed as a link that runs natively on any iPhone.

Set it up

  • Install Xcode from the Mac App Store and sign in to Claude Code or Codex on the plan you have.
  • Download Prototo Desktop from prototo.app/download and open it.
  • Create a new prototype. Prototo sets up the project and opens the live iPhone preview beside the agent.
  • Describe what you want to design. The agent follows Prototo's design guidance as it builds.

Working habits that help

  • Keep one change per prompt and check it in the preview before the next.
  • Keep DESIGN.md current. It is how the agent remembers your decisions between sessions.
  • Review on a real iPhone before you share. Gestures and haptics only feel right on the device.
